Your Oral Health - Keep it healthy!

Are you considering a facial, tongue, lip or cheek piercing. Do you know the potential health risks that are involved? Having good oral hygiene can promote a healthier body so know the facts before making your decision.

Although a piercing may be an artistic expression, it is a serious decision to make when considering the risks involved. Oral piercings can lead to the transmission of hepatitis B and C, nerve damage, gum disease, damage to your teeth, difficulty in speaking and Endocarditis.

Good oral hygiene is an essential part of a person’s overall personal hygiene. Keep your regular dental visits while using proper brushing and flossing. There are many health conditions that can be associated with poor oral hygiene, such as cardiovascular problems, diabetes and immune system disorders. Having a treatment plan that your dentist recommends based on your needs is the first step in good oral hygiene.

Conduct as much research on the topic of proper oral hygiene and the reality of an oral piercing before making that lifelong commitment. Try the following sites for more complete info:

The Annual AACD Conference in Grapevine Texas

My staff and I recently attended the annual conference of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Of all the continuing education opportunities that we take advantage of, I find this one most beneficial as the members of this academy share a particularly strong commitment to excellence in dentistry.

The seminars that we attended focused on the relationships of superior cosmetic results, optimum function and ideal health as well as how to achieve all of these goals simultaneously. Healthy teeth typically look good and teeth that look good are typically healthy. With the technologies and materials available to dentists today, we are able to provide a level of care for you that was not possible just a few short years ago. My staff and I are committed to keeping up with the latest and best in dentistry so that we can continue to provide you with the superior care that you deserve.

As always, we are here to help you as well as anyone you know that may benefit from our services. We welcome new patients. I hope everyone has a fantastic spring and summer.

Dr. Alexander
